About Molly's Nuts
Molly is my wife and the love of my life...but her name isn't really Molly- it’s Carey....
Molly is a nickname that was given to her by dear friends a couple of decades ago....For those of you old enough to remember the movie Ghost, it was after the character Molly, in that movie. See, my wife, encapsulates so many of the qualities of Molly – she is kind, compassionate, loving, empathetic and very generous - and of course, when we were thinking of names, well...and someone said Mollys Nuts, as in ”Molly’snuts” - this rang true – and we all had a good laugh- and then we realized...we just liked the name. And she is not really nuts . But she is really like Molly – and truth be told – her real name Carey – was given to her and spelled the way it is spelled CARE with a Y…because her mom knew that CARING would be the center of Carey’s life and nothing could be more true…which oddly enough…leads us to the NUTS and how this all started…
So Carey – living up to her name as one might expect – is a nurse. And has been for many years. In the more recent past she entered Nurse Management and has come to have hundreds of professionals that she works with everyday. And being the generous, kind and loving spirit that she is, loves to give gifts at holiday time. So she came home from work one day and said, “what do you think we should get for the people I work with for Christmas?” – so I asked – “how many people are we talking about?” – and she stated – in a very matter of fact tone – about 140 or so…..
My response – silence….the kind where you hear crickets….140 people?? How were we going to buy gifts for 140 people… if we spent just $1 per person that was $140 and what could we get them for a $1 or for $5 for that matter – and at $5 a person that was $700….and that was not going to work…so now what…we needed to think…because when Carey wants to do something – we figure it out!
So since we both love to cook, she suggested we make something. This way we could be together (we like to spend time together and with our kids and family). She mentioned that someone had given her spiced nuts once and she enjoyed them and perhaps we could make some. So we played with a few different recipes, and made several pounds of nuts – put them in cute little packages, attached a note, and presto – we had gifts for 140 plus people. And you know what, everyone loved them…I mean REALLY loved them…so for the next few years, we began making more and more – for more and more people – giving them to nearly everyone we knew or worked with – and everyone loves them. It’s a family thing now – everyone knows when nuts are cooking – the smell is amazing…and everyone helps – from gathering ingredients, tossing the nuts, stirring the nuts, packaging, etc…everyone loves to be involved. And that is how we like it…and now, we want to share those same nuts with as many people as possible…we still make every batch by hand, in our kitchen in our home, surrounded by family. Small batches, fresh ingredients, hand made to fill orders – you will taste the love.
